                                                               Norway and Austria, countries I have much admired in the
                                                               past for their living kidney transplantation.

                 DECEASED DONOR KIDNEY TRANSPLANTS
          Ireland’s 20th place is an improvement on last year’s
          rank by three positions. The top dozen countries are
          in similar positions. The biggest significant mover
          was Italy, improving up six places to 15th.

                                                                     Despite our high living kidney transplant ranking,
                                                                    when they are combined with the deceased
                                                                    transplant data we are only in 19th place, up two in
                                                                   the year.
                                                                     The UK is in 14th place. As far as I’m concerned
                                                                    this is proof of the success of their Task Force
                                                                     Strategy of 2008. (See the Submission to the Public
                                                                     Consulatation Process elsewhere in the magazine).

                                                                    We are very grateful to the deceased donors and
                                                                   their families, for without them – where would we
                                                                    be? I apologise to all donor families if they are
                                                                     offended by this mere statistical analysis. It is
                                                                    only conducted to stimulate examination of how
                                                                    we could be doing things better, with our limited
                                                                      resources, and, purely, for this reason alone.
