“Ireland has a small population which enjoys a strong transplantation relationship with its geographically larger neighbour the UK as many Irish patients have benefited from transplantation there!” This was the assertion by the Irish Kidney Association’s Chief Executive, Mark Murphy, when he spoke at the national launch of Organ Donor Awareness Week 2010 which is organised by the Irish Kidney Association and the Irish Donor Network. The life saving awareness campaign, which will take place from 27th March until 3rd April, was launched by the Minister of State at the Department of Health & Children, Aine Brady, T.D. at the Mansion House, Dublin 2 on Tuesday 23rd March. 11th European Day for Organ Donation & Transplantation Sunday, 4th October 2009
Sunday, 4th October marked the 11th European Day for Organ Donation & Transplantation. This organ donor awareness event, which was organised by the Council of Europe, aimed to raise awareness and encourage social debate in European countries of the importance of organ donation and subsequent transplantation as life saving, to express solidarity and support to all those in need of organ transplantation and to honour all organ donors and their families. It was also an opportunity to thank all transplantation professionals throughout Europe whose work helped save and improve the quality of lives for so many people who suffer from organ failure. |
